Argentina’s main media group heirs
Argentina’s main media group heirs despite objecting to the DNA tests have accepted a court ruling forcing them to give fresh DNA samples. The military killed many detainees in the 1970s. The rulings main aim is to find out if the two siblings were born to detainees. Clarin Group’s owner adopted Marcela and Felipe Noble Harrera.
Many people were killed or some even disappeared under the military rule. The samples collected from the DNA test will be compared to a genetic database. They say it violates their privacy. They have backed their adopted mother Ernestina Herrera de Noble, who opposed them. For the last 10 years they have fought this battle.
Rather than appealing they now say they will accept the ruling. “The enormous suffering” that they themselves and their adoptive mother has gone through. They say they want to put an end to this. The previous blood sample they have given at the Federal Agency in 2009 and not to the National Bank of Genetic Data is inadequate for proper DNA testing.
It is not yet clear when they will give their DNA samples again. But their lawyer, Horacio Silva has said that now they will comply with the new court ruling and provide the necessary samples. Even people concerned do not want to know about their past, In 2009 Argentina’s congress passed a ruling where they can use force to extract a DNA test sample in such cases.
They claim that their rights have been violated and they have been trying to prove this through the courts. They say they are victims of political persecution and that there DNA is private and they have no desire in finding out about their biological parents.
The current government of President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has been staunchly opposed by media group owned by Ms Harrera de Noble. They say it is one of the main reasons why the government forced this legislation through.
But Ms Noble has always said that their adoption was legal.
