Hair samples provide a longer ‘window of detection’ eliminating the need for costly and disruptive regular urine testing.

Hair Samples help differentiate a one-off user to a persistent substance abuser.

Every Hair Sample is screened for substances of interest or their by-products. Positive results are then confirmed by GC/LC-MS or GC/LC-MSMS for legally defensible results.

Human hair grows at the rate of 1cm per month on average, therefore for every cm of hair sample will provide a window of approximately one month.

Hair Drug Testing Explained

Hair Drug testing is today, proven in court, to be the most accurate and cost effective way to find and determine if someone is a drug user.

The process is simple and painless; one of our expert nurses will collect a small sample of hair from the individual. The hair drug analysis then establishes if drug metabolites are embedded inside the shaft of the hair and the number of metabolites found.

Traditional forms of drug testing (for example urine drug testing) have a short window of detection. For example most drugs are undetectable after 2-3 days with Urine drug testing. Using Hair drug testing you can establish the level of drug use up to 1 year after use.

With hair samples, the only time limitation for detecting drug use is the length of the donor's hair. A 1cm length of head hair provides a 1 month history of drug use.

An industry standard hair drug test looks at 3cm of hair which provides a 90-day history of drug use.

If no head hair is available, body hair can be used. This provides a window of detection of up to 365 days but cannot provide a month by month breakdown of usage.

Whilst bleaches, shampoos and external contaminants do not impact the results, some types of hair dye may reduce the ability to detect drugs. We would advise of this while analysing the hair.
