Anatolian Shepherd Dog History:
The Anatolian Shepherd Dog originated in Turkey. This large and agile dog was bred to work with the nomadic Shepherds as a valuable defender of livestock from various wild predators including wolves and bears. It’s Turkish name means "Shepherd’s dog".
Close ancestral relatives from the area are thought to include the Turkish Kangal and Akbash breeds. It is thought that primarily their ancestors were used as combat dogs in war and for hunting.
Anatolian Shepherd Dogs exhibit a range of different coat colours and lengths, with a short fawn coat and black facial mask, being a commonly observed coat variant.
