Bluetick Coonhound
The Bluetick Coonhound contains the appearance of a speedy and well-muscled hound. They have a glossy coat and clear eyes with a typical pleading expression, never wild or cowering. The Bluetick is active, ambitious and vocal on the trail. Blueticks are very hospitable to both men and other dogs around them on the trail.
Bluetick Coonhound History:
This Coonhound is typically bred in the southern states of the United States and derives from the selective breeding of the Bleu de Gascogne hound of southern France, the English Foxhound, the cur dog, the American Foxhound and the Black & Tan Virginia Foxhound. They make great hunting dogs that excel in tracking and treeing raccoons, bear and cougars. George Washington owned Bluetick Coonhounds and recognised their musical voices as the "bells of Moscow". The US Kennel Club initially recognised this breed as the English Foxhound and Coonhound, which encompassed many breeds including the Bluetick, Treeing Walker and English Coonhounds but they are now recognised as separate breeds.
