Dog sports such as pulling carts, agility, tracking, herding, and obedience as sport can help to provide physical and mental stimulation while strengthening the dog's bond with its family.
Bouvier des Flanders are also used as service dogs, especially in search and rescue, disability assistance, law enforcement, and animal assisted-therapy.
Bouvier des Flandres History:
The Bouvier des Flandres breed was developed in the French-occupied Flanders in the 1600’s to assist with the herding of cattle. Ancestors include the Brussels Griffon and the Beauceron. The breed legacy has produced many distinctions including a square and powerful build and a rugged appearance.
The breed standards were established in 1912 in France by the vice-president of the Club St. Hubert du Nord. The breeds numbers began to decrease during yhe World Wars. Due to the efforts of a Veterinarian in the Belgian Army they were able to survive and today can be found worldwide.
