With strangers they are likely to be reserved and can very territorial. When young they are dogs that will benefit from plenty of socialisation.
Thet have a short coat that often exhibits merle patterning giving a characteristic appearance. This is extensive variation in coat coloration including black, blue, red, chocolate and brindle, with tan markings and white spotting also possible.
Catahoula Leopard Dog History:
The Catahoula Leopard Dog was created in and is named after the region of Catahoula Lake in Louisiana, USA. They are thought to be derived from crosses between native Indian dogs and dogs brought to the United States by Spanish explorers.
They have been widely used to control wild hogs and cows by holding the animals in a kind of "canine fence". Catahoula Leopard Dogs are still used for this task, although they have alsp been used for hunting and herding. The working instinct is key to the breed, with them being a member of the American Kennel Club’s Foundation Stock Service.
