Collie
Collies are active, intelligent, obedient, and watchful dogs. They are ready to learn especially with reward-based training. Collies appear to enjoy dog sports such as agility, flyball, frisbee, tracking, rally and competitive obedience.
Collies are usually great with children and friendly, although some Collies can be cautious and reserved with strangers.
Collie History:
Collies have their origins in Scotland, where they have been bred to work as shepherd and guard dogs for hundreds of years. The Collie is currently one of the most popular breeds in the world.
The Collie has a fantastic level of intelligence, they have been used for herding, protection, water rescue and as a guide for the blind. The Collie’s reputation for bravery, loyalty and intelligence was further enforced after the release of the film, “Lassie Come Home” in 1943. Their popularity soared throughout the ‘40’s and ‘50’s when the TV Lassie series idealised the Collie as a family dog. Unfortunately this led to indiscriminate breeding taking place to capitalise upon the breed’s popularity causing the health of the breed to suffer.
