English Springer Spaniel
English Springer Spaniels are intelligent, playful, energetic, and usually friendly. Their calm manner combined with their athletic tendencies and stamina make the breed good hunters. However, because of this athleticism, pet English Springer Spaniels need a fair amount of physical and mental stimulation in their family lives. They enjoy retrieving items such as tennis balls and floating toys aimed at taking advantage of their excellent swimming ability.
English Springer Spaniel History:
The English Springer Spaniel is a direct descendant of the spaniels of early Spain. The modern English Springer Spaniel was established through breeding efforts in England during the 1890’s. The breed was specifically designed for springing and retrieving game. Welsh Spaniels, English Springer Spaniels and Cocker Spaniels were often born into the same litter and they would be separated by colour and size when determining which of the three main categories a pup would fall under. The English Springer Spaniel has also been a popular breed in the United States for over two hundred years.
