
Entlebucher Mountain Dog
The Entlebucher is a smaller than medium size breed. The overall impression is that the body is longer than tall and this is due largely to the depth of the brisket. They have a short, smooth coat with a bob tail. The Entlebucher is always tricolored with a black ground coat and rich rust and white markings. The Entlebucher is very agile, with a friendly expression and nice personality. They are brilliant herding and watch dogs.
Entlebucher Mountain dog History:
The Entlebucher Mountain dog which also known as the Entlebucher Sennenhund or Entlebucher Cattle dog, is the smallest of the four Swiss Mountain dogs. It is a dog native to the Entlebuch district in Switzerland, close to the the city of Lucerne. The breed originated from the big Molosser breed that was introduced into Switzerland by the Romans. The Entlebucher was first recognized as a separate breed in 1869 and the first breed club appeared in 1926. The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is extremely popular in Switzerland however is rarely seen in other countries. At one point, they were close to becoming extinct. The original Entlebuchers were kept for their herding and guarding skills. However, nowadays they are kept mostly as family dogs.
