Ibizan Hound

Ibizan Hounds are usually friendly, intelligent, quiet, active, and alert dogs. They are very quick and require physical and mental stimulation, this can be provided by dog sports such as lure and open field coursing, racing, retrieving, musical freestyle, Frisbee, agility, both rally and standard obedience, and swimming. Jogging can also help to fulfill these needs while taking advantage of the Ibizan Hound's ability to run.

Ibizan Hounds are also known to bond with people in animal-assisted therapy. Even though they are usually friendly, Ibizan Hounds may be watchful with strangers, which means that they may have a low level of concern about them. However, ealrey socialisation may reduce the development of any fear-based defensive aggression.

Ibizan Hound History:

The Ibizan Hound is a very agile member of the hound family originally bred to hunt rabbits and small game on the Spanish island of Ibiza. Spanish hunters often used packs of females with only one or two males, as the females are considered to be the better hunters.

Ibizan Hounds use sight, scent or sound and are an extremly fast breed that can hunt on all types of terrain  during the day and at night.

It was commonly believed that the Ibizan Hound was a direct descendant of an ancient Egyptian breed due to pictures of dogs resembling the Ibizan Hound found on the inner walls of ancient Egyptian Pyramids. However, recent DNA analysis shows that they are not related to the Egyptian breed but are actually a more recently developed bloodline.
