Lakeland Terrier
Lakeland Terriers are well known to be intelligent, energetic, alert, sometimes clownish and more often than not friendly. They have good hunting abilities, with a keen sense of smell, this allows them to participate in earthdog trials.
Lakeland Terriers enjoy a variety of dog sports such as retrieving, agility, tracking, flyball, musical freestyle, and both rally and standard obedience as sport that can provide physical and mental stimulation while promoting bonding with their families. They can be good hiking companions, although usually they need to be on a leash to prevent them from chasing wildlife.
Lakeland Terrier History:
The Lakeland Terrier has its origins in the Lake District region of northern England in the early twentieth century. They were formerly known as the Patterdale, Fell and Elterwater Terrier. They were originally bred for hunting of foxes, otters and badgers. The build and agility of the Lakeland terrier enabled them to pursue prey deep into their tunnels. It is one of the oldest surviving working terrier breeds. The name Lakeland Terrier was chosen and the standard set in 1921 after world war 1.
