The Large Munsterlander is a versatile pointing gun dog that is well known for their ability to locate and retrieve shot game. They are a black and white dog with elegant, crisp lines and have a distinct look of nobility.
They give the immediate impression of possessing a combination of strength and refinement. They are a primarily a working gun dog, that are tractable, trainable and intelligent. They has a lively temperament, yet do not possess nervous or hyperactive traits.
Large Münsterlander History
The Large Münsterlander, as the name suggests, originates from the Münster region of Germany in the early 1900s. They are a fine hunting dog, having descended from the German Longhaired Pointer, to which both the Gordon Setter and Irish Setter were bred in the 1850s to refine the breed.
The Large Münsterlander became a recognised breed in its own right in 1919 in Germany, and has since spread globally in small numbers driven by the devotion of dedicated breeders.
