Example Paternity Report - Exclusion (not the father)
This example of a DNA Worldwide Paternity Report shows the alleged father as "excluded" as the biological father. To be included, the Combined Parentage Index must be greater than 100 (the probability of paternity must be greater than 99%). DNA Testing Direct probability of paternity regularly exceed 99.99%.
At each locus, matches between alleged father and child are identified. For each match a Parentage Index is calculated based on the frequency of the allele within the population. If there are matches at all locations a Combined Parentage Index is calculated and a Probability of Paternity is generated. If there are significant mismatches (as few as 2 or more) the alleged father is 100% excluded as the biological father.
In this example, at locus D7S820 (highlighted), the mother and child share alleles measuring 8. Alleles measuring 10, 5 and 12 are not shared by the alleged father and child. Because the alleles mismatch at this locus, the Parentage Index is 0.000. The alleged father and child only share 4 of 15 tested alleles, therefor this alleged father cannot be the biological father of the child.
