Paternity Test

DNA testing can determine which person is the biological father of a child and therefore end the pain and uncertainty and gives both parents and the child peace of mind. Deciding to take a paternity DNA test is a decision which needs plenty of consideration beforehand as the results do not always turn out as expected and could potentially lead to more upset.

Paternity DNA testing allows families to find out for sure who the biological father of a child is and then allows them go on to build a family life based on truth and trust instead of doubt. A paternity DNA test is one of the most simple and accurate ways to determine who the biological father is - all that is involved is a simple swab from the inside of the cheek and results are over 99% accurate.

The advantages of a DNA testing kit

A DNA test kit is one of the most discrete ways to take a paternity test as you can complete the test in the privacy of your own home at a time convenient to you. Once you have taken a swab from the inside of your cheek you can then return the sample, often for free by post to the laboratory for testing. The entire test only takes a few moments and you can avoid the hassle and worry of making a Doctor’s appointment and going to a clinic to complete the test.

Generally the test results are ready within a week and you can often choose how you receive them - either by post, phone or email which gives you further flexibility and allows for total discretion.

A DNA test kit is also relatively affordable and although prices vary from company to company you should be able to order a kit for £150. The high levels of accuracy these tests offer means that there will be little doubt after the test about who the biological father of a child is and this can end months or even years of suspicion.

When a DNA test kit can’t be used

Home paternity DNA testing is a quick, convenient and very accurate way to determine who the biological father of a child is and many people opt for these tests to give themselves peace of mind. However if you require DNA test results to support a case in court then results from a home paternity test would not be accepted.

A court will need to ensure the test results are from the individuals in question and that the test was completed by a professional and qualified company and this can’t be guaranteed with results from a home DNA testing kit.

For many people a DNA test at home is the most convenient and confidential way to determine the biological father of a child. As with any paternity issue, it’s always a good idea to consider every possible outcome and how you and the family will cope once the results are known.
