What is a Cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site.
What types of Cookies do we use?
We use both persistent and session cookies across the following broad types:
- Strictly Necessary
What is the difference between persistent and session cookies?
Cookies may be either “persistent” or “session”. A persistent cookie will remain valid until its set expiry date (unless deleted by the user before the expiry date). A session cookie, on the other hand, will expire at the end of the user session, when the web browser is closed.
What is a strictly necessary cookie?
A required, or strictly necessary, cookie contains information required to use the site, this is usually a session cookie. When your browser requests a new page as you navigate our site, important information on your previous actions would be lost without this functionality. While cookies can be selectively blocked by yourself our site will not function without these cookies enabled. An example of this would be a product added to your basket being still there when you visit the checkout page.
What is a functionality cookie?
A functionality cookie contains identifiers for your preferences, this is usually a persistent cookie. It enables our website to remember your actions and preferences (such as login, language, font size and other display preferences) over a period of time, so you don’t have to keep re-entering them whenever you come back to the site or browse from one page to another. An example of this would be a cookie to ‘remember’ your prefered language.
What is a performance cookie?
A performance cookie contains an anonymous identifier (a string of letters and numbers), this is usually a persistent cookie. The identifier is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server. This allows us to collect statistical information on how the site is used so we can improve the site and tailor accordingly. An example of this would be a cookie to let us know if this was your first visit to the site.
What is a targeting cookie?
How do I manage my cookies?
You are freely entitled to accept, block or delete any cookies. You can delete all cookies that are already on your computer and you can set most browsers to prevent all or some of them from being placed. For more information please visit allaboutcookies.org
